Warrick Dunn, who once played in the NFL, has continued to have a significant impact off the field through his charitable organization, Warrick Dunn Charities. Dunn’s charity teamed up with Habitat for Humanity and Cigna to present LaToya Reedy, a single mother from St. A brand-new home is available in Petersburg, Florida. This heartwarming surprise marks the 173rd Home donated by his ‘Home for the Holidays’ campaign, which aims to help single parents become homeowners. Reedy, a nursing assistant with rising rent costs, worked tirelessly to establish a secure life for herself and her 18-year-old son. Due to the high rent prices, they had no choice but to move into her mother’s house, where they shared one room and took turns sleeping on the bed. Reedy expressed her gratitude for being given a new home.

“Being a homeowner now, I can be at home,” Reedy shared with the Tampa Bay Times. “I can be at peace. I can bring sweet memories to my house and I can have my family and my friends over. I have a home now, and that’s something that I’ve always wanted for my son, and for myself.”
Reedy participated in Habitat for Humanity’s program and volunteered to help build homes for others, fulfilling the charity’s requirement that recipients participate in the building process. For Warrick Dunn, who was raised by his single mother, Betty Smothers, the ‘HHomefor the Holidays’ initiative holds solid personal significance. Smothers, a Baton Rouge police officer, was fatally injured before Dunn’s 18th birthday, leaving him to take care of his five siblings while also pursuing his football career. Dunn has devoted himself to making the dream of owning a home a reality for other single parents in memory of his mother’s dream.
“I’ve used this program as therapy,” Dunn explained to the Tampa Bay Times. “Every time I hand over those keys, there’s a little piece of my mom and the things she wanted.”
Since its inception, Warrick Dunn Charities has transformed families across the country, providing a house and a sanctuary. For Reedy, her new home represents security, comfort, and a fresh start—a future filled with hope and possibility. Dunn’s exceptional kindness persists in providing stability to needy families, proving that his legacy transcends football. He creates lasting change through his charity, one Home and one family at a time.
