Kawhi Leonard Has Been Building a Creative Empire

Kawhi Leonard does not talk much. Never has. He let the game do the speaking for 14 seasons — two Finals MVPs, four Defensive Player of the Year awards, one of the most iconic shots in NBA history. The quiet was not absence. It was strategy.

Now he is talking. Just not through press conferences.

Leonard has launched Lavish Mountain Studios, his own creative production company focused on animation, commercial work, and original storytelling. He took on the role of Creative Director for the KAWHI V, his fifth signature shoe with New Balance. He is creating animated short films that spotlight craftsmanship through the eyes of athletes, entrepreneurs, painters, fashion designers, and musicians. He traveled to Rwanda and unveiled a basketball court. He came back and said he wished he had had a foundation when he was growing up.

He is 34 years old. He is still playing basketball at an elite level. And he has been building a creative empire in parallel for years.

Lavish Mountain Studios

The company started quietly, the way most things with Kawhi do. Lavish Mountain Productions — later formalized as Lavish Mountain Studios — began as an animation and commercial production house. The name is a nod to Leonard’s self-described approach to life: slow is pro. Build without announcing it. Reach the top without making a scene on the way up.

The studio focuses on original animation and branded content. Rather than centering himself in the work, Leonard said he is creating pieces that spotlight other craftspeople. Athletes. Entrepreneurs. Painters. Fashion designers. Musicians. People who build things with their hands and their minds and their vision. People who look like he does and come from places like where he came from.

That is a production company with a point of view. Not a vanity project. A genuine creative philosophy.

Creative Director of the KAWHI V

For the first time in his signature line with New Balance, Leonard took the Creative Director chair on the KAWHI V campaign. He personally shaped the storytelling and visual direction of the rollout.

That means he was not just in front of the camera. He was behind it. Approving shots. Making aesthetic decisions. Shaping the narrative around a shoe that carries his name.

“Working with the New Balance design team on the KAWHI V is a continuation of what we have been building together through the years,” Leonard said. “We added details that allow me to perform at the top of my game but also show my creative style.”

The shoe itself reflects that. Performance-first construction built around Leonard’s style of play — calm, calculated, explosive — with design details that reflect his aesthetic sensibility. The campaign surrounding it was built the same way. Understated. Precise. Intentional.

The Rwanda Chapter

Leonard’s first trip to Rwanda last year added another dimension to the story most people had not connected. He unveiled a basketball court at a school in Kigali. Spent time with youth athletes. Met with President Paul Kagame to discuss youth sports development.

When reporters expected him to talk about the celebrity experience, he said something different.

“I wish I just had a foundation or somebody that was close to some type of college or NBA team.”

He came back from Rwanda thinking about infrastructure. About what he did not have growing up and what he could build for young people who are where he once was. The foundation work is coming. The studio is already running. The shoe campaign just dropped.

The Quote That Says Everything

Leonard has spent years deflecting the spotlight. People have mistaken that for disinterest. He was just working.

“The time is now,” he said recently, quickly clarifying that he is focused on telling stories on his own terms.

“I just usually put my head down and work.”

That sentence is the biography. He has been building Lavish Mountain Studios, developing animated content, directing his own shoe campaign, and expanding his community footprint while the sports world spent years asking whether he cared. He cared. He was just doing it quietly.

Why This Is the PlayersTV Story

PlayersTV was built for athletes who own their narratives. Kawhi Leonard is the most extreme version of that idea in professional basketball.

He does not grant access. He builds his own access. He does not let brands tell his story. He builds the production company that tells the stories. He does not show up in someone else’s campaign. He directs his own.

Two Finals MVPs. A creative agency. An animated short film series. A Rwanda basketball court. A signature shoe he creative-directed himself.

He put his head down and worked. The results are just starting to surface.
