In a powerful continuation of their 2024 partnership aimed at elevating the future of fandom in women’s sports, WNBA All-Star Angel Reese and Cash App have teamed up once again—this time to make a direct and lasting impact on the ground in Chicago. The duo unveiled the newly renovated basketball court at Oakwood Beach, which was created to inspire the city’s youth and increase access and opportunities for young girls in sports.
Project Backboard, a nonprofit known for revitalizing public basketball spaces, collaborated with Angel C. Reese Foundation to make the court’s transformation possible. Reese Foundation empowers girls and women through sports, education, and financial literacy.
“This court is more than just a place to hoop,” said Reese at the unveiling. “It’s a space where girls can see what’s possible for them on and off the court. I’m so proud to partner with Cash App to give back to the city I’ve fallen in love with, in such a meaningful way. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for the next generation of basketball players and leaders.”
Aspiring athletes, particularly young girls, who often lack the resources and representation in sports, can look to the vibrant court as a symbol of possibility and community transformation, serving as a beacon. Cash App’s ongoing commitment to bridging cultures, community, and economic empowerment is reflected in this project.
Cash App’s sports initiatives are expanding, including its work with the Atlanta Dream and becoming the title sponsor of the Visa Cash App RB F1 Academy Team. As women’s sports reach unprecedented popularity and viewership, Cash App is championing investing in women’s sports that combine financial backing and cultural recognition, starting with tangible efforts like the Oakwood Beach court.
