Under Armour has taken another significant step in solidifying its influence in women’s basketball by signing a multi-year partnership with Nika Mühl. The former UConn star will now represent the brand, which is famous for her challenging play and innovative fashion sense, both on and off the court. Mühl will wear Under Armour gear, which includes Curry Brand sneakers, when she returns to play for the Seattle Storm in the WNBA. Mühl, a native Croatian, spent four seasons at the University of Connecticut, where she made a mark on program history.
The Seattle Storm selected her 14th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, adding to her impressive basketball career. Despite her limited playing time in her rookie season, Mühl impressed fashion outlets like GQ with her unique style, earning praise for her pre-game outfits. Thanks to her growing reputation as a fashion-forward athlete, the deal with Under Armour may have been secured.
Mühl expressed her delight in joining the brand, stating, “The team behind the Under Armour brand is incredible. They’re so innovative, creative, and just relentless at what they do, and I align with that so much. Having grown up watching their athletes, I have seen how they really invest in them, letting them have their own vision but also helping them to grow and support their work. It’s so much more than just the logo—it’s an entire community that shares the same values I do.”
Under Armour made a point to emphasize Mühl’s defensive prowess in their promotional material by naming her the ‘Secretary of Defense’ in a campaign that acknowledges her reputation as a lockdown defender. She set the program’s all-time assists record at UConn and won the Big East Defensive Player of the Year twice, affirming her on-court credibility. Mühl is currently in the process of recovering from an ACL tear that she suffered while playing outside the WNBA offseason. Despite this, she continues to be an active member of the basketball community, recently returning to UConn to support her former teammate Paige Bueckers on Senior Day.
Under Armour’s investment in Mühl is a sign of their faith in her potential, and despite this setback, she is widely regarded as a key figure in the new generation of women’s basketball. Under Armour’s partnership with Mühlplaysy a significant role in women’s basketball, taking advantage of Mühl’s skills and cultural influence. As she works towards her return to the court, the partnership is a testament to the brand’s commitment to elevating athletes who embody its values of perseverance, innovation, and style.
