The TJK Classic is returning, but this time, it’s bigger, bolder, and more impactful than ever. The third annual TJK Classic III, which will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Corsair Gym, Santa Monica College, promises awe-inspiring basketball action, community celebration, and transformative purpose.
The Classic, which TJ Kidd founded, has evolved into more than just a celebrity charity game. Basketball can be a force for good, leading to a vibrant movement rooted in that idea. The event aims to bring together athletes, entertainers, fans, and philanthropists who have the same goal of making a difference in underserved communities, inspiring the next generation, and investing in real change.
This year, the Seven Six Foundation, which former NBA player Mamadou N’Diaye runs, is partnering with the Seven Six mission to make it even more meaningful. The foundation’s mission is to empower youth globally through mentorship, education, and sports, aligning with the TJK Classic’s values.
Together, they aim to highlight the power of purpose-driven play and leave a lasting impact far beyond the final buzzer. Despite its fast-paced and entertaining showdown, the event’s heart lies in giving young people the tools and encouragement to believe in their potential. The TJK Classic’s growth as a platform for inclusion and inspiration stems from its provision of access to high-level basketball, mentorship opportunities, and positive role models.
The 2025 roster is full of stars who are coming not only to entertain but also to serve. In his own words, TJ Kidd shares with PlayersTV the deeper purpose behind the Classic below.
1. The TJK Classic is more than just a basketball tournament. What inspired you to create an event that blends the game with community empowerment and youth development?
To put on the TJK Classic is something I don’t take lightly. I owe the game a lot. Empowering communities and supporting youth development is something we aim for with every event. I’m a firm believer in being the change you want to see in the world.
2. This year’s theme centers around uplifting young voices and creating opportunities in underserved communities. Why is that mission so important to you personally?
Everyone has a voice—unique and distinctive. We live in divided times. There’s a quote by Muhammad Ali: “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth.” I try to live by that. I want to leave the world better than I found it.
3. Basketball can be a powerful tool for change. How do you envision the TJK Classic using the game as a platform to influence lives beyond the court?
The Classic is filled with people from various industries giving their time to play for a good cause. It might be a household name or someone just about to break out. Either way, it’s an unforgettable experience that makes a lasting impression.
4. Partnering with Mamadou N’Diaye’s 7’6” Foundation brings a new level of impact. What does this collaboration mean for the TJK Classic and the communities it serves?
If you know Mamadou, you love Mamadou. He’s one of the most unique people I’ve met. We came up with this collaboration after the second Classic. His passion is inspiring, and working with the 7’6” Foundation shines a light on the amazing work they’re doing.
5. The 7’6” Foundation is known for its commitment to global youth empowerment. How are you working together to make this year’s TJK Classic more inclusive and far-reaching?
We’ve donated tickets to youth programs in LA so they can come see their favorite influencers and celebrities play—many of whom they might not otherwise have access to.
6. Can you share any specific initiatives or programs that will be introduced at the Classic this year through the partnership with the 7’6” Foundation?
Nothing being introduced specifically at the event this year, but the collaboration continues beyond just one night.
7. In what ways does the TJK Classic aim to create lasting change for young people in underserved neighborhoods, not just during the event, but year-round?
The Classic provides kids from underserved areas a chance to experience a high-level basketball event and meet influencers, athletes, and celebrities—some of whom they look up to. That connection can spark dreams and confidence.
8. What role do mentorship and leadership development play in your approach to youth outreach through the Classic?
I’ve been lucky to have amazing mentors like Jason Celaya, Ricky Smith, Eric Dickerson, and my mom. I’ve coached high school basketball and worked many camps—those experiences showed me how powerful a positive role model can be.
9. Looking ahead, how do you hope the TJK Classic will evolve in terms of impact and reach over the next 5 to 10 years?
The goal is always to improve. We’re focused on making the next event the best it can be, and with that mindset, growth will come naturally.
10. If there’s one message or feeling you want every kid to walk away with after participating in the TJK Classic, what would it be?
Empowerment. That they can make a difference no matter who they are—that kindness, empathy, and compassion matter—and to always dream big and never give up.
11. Who are some of the participants we can expect to see at this year’s TJK Classic, and how does their involvement help amplify the event’s mission?
We’ve got a great group. I’m the GM of my team, Mamadou is the GM of his. NBA legends John Salley and Kenyon Martin are coaching. Rome Flynn, Larry Sanders, Jenna Bandy, Whit3 Iverson, and Yeti are all playing. Everyone involved plays a key role in making this event special—it wouldn’t happen without them.
