Former WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns is set to bring his star power from the squared circle to the big screen once again, with a role in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video heist comedy The Pickup. Wednesday, August 6, 2025, marks the release of the film.
Amazon MGM Studios unveiled its first movie poster on May 29, which generated excitement due to its all-star cast. Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson lead the comedy and entertainment lineup, while Reigns will join in what is expected to be a memorable supporting role.

Although the WWE megastar is not the main focus of the movie, his presence adds to the excitement surrounding it. Reigns, who is known for his commanding on-screen presence and charisma, is expected to leave an impression in his roles, just like he did in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. That 2019 blockbuster marked his first major film appearance, where he played the brother of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character.
Tim Story (Barbershop, Ride Along) is the director of The Pickup, which has been described as a heist film that is stylish and comedic, but the plot details are still unclear. Story confirmed Reigns’ participation earlier this year, effectively putting a stop to previous speculation that the wrestler was scheduled to appear in another comedy project, Good Fortune.
This latest acting role for Reigns, who is also known as Leati Joseph Anoa’i, is a result of a greater shift in his career focus. He has been working a reduced WWE schedule for the past two years, keeping his position as one of the company’s top attractions while also taking time for outside opportunities in film and television. Reigns has openly talked about his desire to pursue entertainment ventures beyond wrestling, hinting that he is carefully building the foundation for a Hollywood career as his in-ring career progresses.
The Pickup is a successful transition for WWE superstars, like Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and Batista, who have made successful transitions into mainstream entertainment. Although Reigns’ exact role in the movie remains a mystery, fans are eager to see how his physicality, timing, and charisma translate into a comedic setting with experienced performers such as Murphy and Palmer.
One of Amazon Prime Video’s most anticipated releases of 2025 is The Pickup, which is a blend of humor, action, and high-profile talent. Reigns is facing both a creative challenge and an opportunity to strengthen his crossover appeal.
As WWE continues to evolve and Reigns gradually scales back his in-ring appearances, The Pickup could serve as another step in a post-wrestling career that keeps “The Tribal Chief” in the global spotlight—only this time, with a script and a camera instead of an opponent and a championship belt.
