NBC/Peacock is preparing to launch its $27 billion, 11-year broadcasting deal starting next season, according to The Athletic. The network’s game coverage lineup expects Crawford to join, even though contracts haven’t been signed and his role is still being finalized.
Crawford’s experience and extensive knowledge of the game will be a valuable asset to NBC, having previously worked with TNT Sports and NBA TV. His contribution to New York Knicks games on MSG Network is limited at this time. His inclusion is part of NBC’s effort to build a star-studded team as it returns to the NBA broadcasting scene.
Reggie Miller, TNT’s lead analyst and a Hall of Famer known for his sharp insights and charisma, maybe joining NBC alongside Crawford. Miller’s star power could be harnessed to draw audiences and feature prominently on NBC’s top games in the event of his signing. Despite the ongoing talks, no formal offers have been made.
Miller’s possible move would be another prominent addition to NBC’s broadcast team, boosting its NBA coverage. The network’s marquee matchups would be a great opportunity for him to showcase his extensive on-air experience and legacy as one of the NBA’s greatest sharpshooters.
NBA broadcasting will be transformed by NBC and its Peacock streaming platform. Starting next season, Peacock will be broadcasting exclusive Monday games, and NBC will be hosting national games on Tuesdays that are divided regionally between East and West Coast matchups. For instance, a game on the East Coast like the Knicks vs. The Celtics could find themselves in the middle of a West Coast battle like the Lakers vs. Suns can play both games on Peacock.
Sunday Night Basketball, which will culminate after Sunday Night Football each weekend, will also be introduced by the network. Furthermore, NBC will be more involved in playoff coverage by sharing the postseason slate with ABC/ESPN and Amazon Prime Video. NBC is scheduled to air one of the conference finals in six of the 11 contract years.
It is probable that Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle, both of NBC’s most prominent football commentators, will be the main play-by-play announcers for NBC. Even though full coverage requires at least four broadcast teams, NBC still needs to fill several positions.
