Erica Wheeler Talks Entrepreneurship, Revamping Cliché Wine, and a New Venture in Houston

Erica Wheeler, who played in the WNBA for years, is recognized in the entrepreneurial world for her off-court hustle. Recently, the Seattle Storm guard discussed her journey as a businesswoman, her updated restaurant venture in Atlanta, and a mysterious new project that is in the works in Houston. After transforming Wheeler’s passion project, Cliché Wine, which is located in College Park, Atlanta, is flourishing.

“We just revamped the restaurant—it’s doing great!” she shared. A key part of that success was bringing on a new partner, Gendi, who has brought in a fresh crowd and helped elevate the restaurant’s profile. “He’s brought in a whole new crowd that we didn’t have before,” Wheeler noted. “If you’re ever in the area, stop by!”

However, the restaurant is only the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey. Wheeler is always looking ahead and has already started setting up for her next venture, this one in Houston.

“I’ve got something cooking up in Houston,” she teased, without giving too much away. “I always want to tap into new opportunities because, as I tell everybody, basketball isn’t forever. At some point, I’m going to have to hang it up, and I want to make sure that me and my family are in a good position when that time comes.”

Wheeler’s business mindset is driven by a desire for wealth that can last for generations and long-term stability. Humility and a willingness to learn are its foundations.

“I’m fortunate to have powerful, knowledgeable people in my circle who are giving me game,” she explained. “Right now, I’m just being a sponge—soaking up everything I can about entrepreneurship, because I don’t know it all.”

Wheeler’s focus is not only on building businesses; it is also on building a legacy. Her approach is refreshingly grounded, and she asks questions, learns from those who have been there, and never lets opportunities pass by. Erica Wheeler is steadily creating a blueprint for life beyond the game while excelling on the basketball court. Her entrepreneurial footprint is expanding from Atlanta to Houston, and she’s only just getting started.
