De’Aaron Fox, who is a Sacramento Kings star, takes advantage of off-days during the NBA season to give back. Opening Doors, a nonprofit organization based in Sacramento, was the recipient of Thanksgiving meal packages from Fox and his family on Tuesday.
The meals in the package were comprised of turkeys, sides, nonperishable food items, $100 gift cards from Raley’s, and Kings-themed swag. The 23rd Annual Season of Doing Good included in this heartwarming initiative, according to Sacramento Bee.
De’Aaron and Recee’s family and community are the focus of holidays for them. Opening Doors, a nonprofit that assists immigrants, refugees, and trafficking survivors in their quest for stability and belonging, was a partner they formed three years ago.
“For us, it’s about helping minority groups,” Fox shared at the event. “Some of them are refugees, and being able to be in this country for however long they’ve been here, we just want to be able to help.”
The Fox family was welcomed with warm smiles, personal Thanksgiving wishes, and the opportunity to take photos.
“Being able to have that type of relationship and see people year in and year out is definitely a blessing for us,” Fox said.
Ever since joining the Kings in 2017, Fox has embraced the Sacramento community, and events such as this demonstrate his dedication to giving back.
“The Sacramento community, for us, is extremely important,” Fox said. “We love the support that they give us, and we try to give that same type of support back. We make enough money to be able to help people and change the community, so we do as much as we can.”
Fox’s generosity goes beyond Thanksgiving. His family intends to organize a similar occasion during the Christmas season, continuing their tradition of making the holidays more enjoyable for those who need it.
The Kings players who gave back weren’t exclusive to Fox. In Sacramento and nearby cities, Domantas Sabonis and Devin Carter, along with their teammates, hosted Thanksgiving community events. The Kings organization has demonstrated its dedication to supporting the community throughout the year.
The Fox family’s holiday efforts demonstrate their strong bond with Sacramento and their desire to make a difference. Fox expressed it:
“We just love being able to help people who are more unfortunate than us and just try to make their holidays a little bit better.”
The Fox family’s spirit of giving is still present through their kindness and consistent outreach, making Sacramento a better place for all.
