Carmelo Anthony is a basketball legend who played for the Syracuse Orange and is now a finalist for the 2025 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Anthony is one of 17 notable basketball figures competing for a spot in this prestigious class, and this announcement was made during NBA All-Star Weekend. Anthony’s remarkable freshman season at Syracuse in 2003 saw him lead the team to their first NCAA Championship and be named Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
“Humbled and honored,” Anthony tweeted.

His college success marked the start of a remarkable career that would encompass NBA and international play. After being drafted No. 3 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft, Anthony’s career spanned 19 years, during which he was named an All-Star 10 times and selected to the All-NBA team six times.
“That’d be even better, going to Detroit. That’s a playoff team. When I first heard [I might go to the Nuggets], I was like, ‘I don’t want to go to Denver,'” Melo recalled.
“But then I sat down with my agent, and he told me how much money [under the salary cap] they’re going to have. They have a chance to be good,” the ten-time All-Star added.
His accomplishments led to his inclusion on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, cementing his legacy as one of the league’s all-time greats. Anthony excelled as a key member of Team USA, winning three Olympic gold medals in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
Anthony will join fellow Syracuse alumni Dave Bing, Jim Boeheim, and Victor ‘Vic’ Hanson as Naismith Hall of Fame members if he is inducted. The Hall of Fame Honors Committee will make the final decision, with the official class of 2025 to be announced on April 5th during the men’s college basketball Final Four. Carmelo Anthony’s impressive basketball career is a worthy candidate, and fans are eager to see if he will become one of the most critical players in the game.
