Duke’s Jon Scheyer has added his initial significant recruit to the 2026 recruiting class. On Tuesday, Top-20 senior Bryson Howard, son of former NBA star Josh Howard, announced his commitment to the Blue Devils, choosing Duke over fellow powerhouse programs, North Carolina and Kentucky.
Howard, a 6-foot-5 left-handed wing, decided after visiting Durham last month that it had left a lasting impression.
“I loved my visit to Duke,” Howard told ESPN. “I spent a lot of time with the coaches and players. We went to Coach Scheyer’s house for dinner, and it felt like home.”
Howard is a rising prospect in the nation. In his 21 games of competition on the Nike EYBL circuit, he averaged 19.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, and shot an impressive 46.2% from beyond the arc on more than five attempts per game while competing for Pro Skills. His sharp shooting and consistent performances helped him climb from unranked to No. 20 nationally in the 2026 class.
Howard deemed Duke’s fast-paced, team-oriented system to be an ideal match for his skill set.
“When I attended practice, I saw that their style of play fits my game,” he said. “The practice was very positive and full of energy, with a pace that was up and down. Coach Scheyer believes I will thrive in his system.”
Howard’s shooting mechanics are renowned for their smooth footwork, high release, and excellent balance. He’s capable of harming both a catch-and-shoot scorer, a pull-up shooter, or a slasher to the rim. He can be both a perimeter threat and an aggressive finisher thanks to his versatility.
Duke’s impressive recruiting run under Scheyer will continue with Howard’s commitment. The Blue Devils have triumphed over the No. In back-to-back years, we have a recruiting class that focuses on homegrown development rather than relying heavily on the transfer portal. Several top prospects, including Jordan Smith (No. 2), Cameron Williams (No. 3), Austin Goosby (No. 19), and Maximo Adams (No. 26). Five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr. (No. 18) is currently visiting campus.
At the same time, Canadian center Maxime Meyer and elite 2027 talent Sayon Keita, who could potentially reclassify to 2026, have also been recent visitors. Duke is given a crucial piece by Howard’s addition – a talented, high-IQ wing who is ready to carry on the Blue Devils’ tradition of excellence.
