Bobby Wagner Joins Seattle Storm Ownership Group, Strengthening Commitment to Women’s Sports and Community Impact

The Seattle Storm, one of the WNBA’s most storied franchises, announced a significant addition to its ownership group: Super Bowl XLVIII Champion and All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner. The longtime Seattle Seahawks icon brings not only his deep ties to the Emerald City, but also a powerful commitment to community, equity, and elevating women’s sports.

Wagner, selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, has carved out a Hall of Fame-worthy career, currently entering his 14th season in the league. With 10 Pro Bowl selections and 11 All-Pro honors, he holds three franchise records for most tackles in a single season. He leads all active players in total tackles — achievements that have earned him recognition as one of the most respected players in the game.

He’s now focused on a new area of play.

“Bobby is a hometown hero who has had immeasurable impact on the Seattle community,” said Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel. “He shares our desire to grow the game and knows the value and importance of investing in women’s sports. As we continue to build on the incredible legacy of the Storm franchise, we are excited to add Bobby’s experience and expertise to the mix.”

For Wagner, this move extends beyond basketball.

“It’s an honor to join the Seattle Storm ownership group and support a franchise that has consistently set the standard in women’s professional sports,” said Wagner. “This is about more than basketball — it’s about investing in a legacy of excellence, empowering women, and continuing to elevate the game for future generations.”

The Seattle Storm has consistently displayed excellence both on and off the court. The four-time WNBA champions have made the playoffs 19 times in their 25-year history, and their dedication to innovation remains unique. During 2023, the franchise established the BECU Storm Center for Basketball Performance, a $64 million state-of-the-art training facility designed solely for a WNBA team, which exemplifies the organization’s commitment to athlete development and professional standards.

Forbes have recognized the Storm as the third most valuable franchise in the WNBA this year, a reflection of their competitive success and forward-thinking leadership. In addition to basketball, the Storm has invested heavily in the Seattle community, specifically through its Force4Change platform. The organization provides support for youth development, health and wellness programs, social justice initiatives, and partnerships that focus on equity and accessibility. Wagner’s involvement has the potential to magnify these efforts, using his profile and leadership to make a lasting impact in the region. Seattle’s status as a city that promotes both sports excellence and community empowerment is solidified with Bobby Wagner joining forces with the Storm.
